Summer Research Funding
The Department of Classics offers two funds to support undergraduate and graduate research, travel, or study during the summer:
Commager Fund
Provides fellowships for undergraduate or graduate students in the School of Arts and Sciences for summer research, travel, or study. Preference is given to students specializing in Latin when candidates are of equal merit. Approximately $3,000 is available annually, which may be divided among multiple recipients.
Undergraduate Latin Fund
Supports current Columbia undergraduate students engaged in research or summer study exclusively related to Latin language and literature. Funding is open to all undergraduate students, regardless of major or level of study. Approximately $3,000 is available annually, which may be divided among multiple recipients.
Application Process
Students may apply to one or both funds by submitting a proposal that includes:
· a one-page description of the proposed research or course of study
· a budget
· a timeline
Applications for these funds are submitted to the Director of Undergraduate Studies every spring semester through a publicly advertised call.
