“History and the Cure for Curiosity” 

Abstract: In this paper I explore the special relationship between (ancient) historiography and curiosity. I am interested in particular in Plutarch’s idiosyncratic view of historía as a cure for the disease of curiosity and examine the concept of historía invoked by Plutarch in the De curiositate in relation to his practice as a biographer.
