SNFPHI Online Workshop: Extra-terrestrial ethnographies of the future-present

  • Department of Classics at Columbia University in the City of New York 1130 Amsterdam Avenue, 617 Hamilton Hall, MC 2861 New York, NY 10027 USA (map)

Taking the contemporary moment as an alien world, participants in this workshop will embark on “tracking” missions, using memes, news media, vlogs, archival images, political satire, peer commentary, and works of fiction (e.g., plague literature) as “data” to create a collaborative sci–fi ethnography. The resulting textual body—an extra-terrestrial account of our “new normal”—will evolve online through a collaborative platform and result in a zine publication prepared by participants in a second workshop on December 17. The workshop will be conducted in Greek and Εnglish.

Workshop conveners: The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Public Humanities Initiative (SNFPHI) at Columbia University, Alexandra Siotou (University of Thessaly), George Mantzios (University of Toronto), Penelope Papailias (University of Thessaly)
.

Spots in the workshop are limited. Register by Monday 16 November on SNFPHI's website (https://snfphi.columbia.edu/events/extra-terrestrial-ethnographies-of-the-future-present-part-i-writing-workshop/)
